So I've had a headache ever since I arrived. I'm not sure if this is culture shock or if it's due to a combination of long travel, hot sun, poor sleep, a new language, and Antigua being at 5,000 feet above sea level. Or maybe that's what culture shock is :)
The good news is that it's slightly better today! Perhaps I'm acclimating.
This is a picture of my school! It's very nice and it's completely open in the middle.
Last night after dinner, Salvador and I watched Bonanza en Espanol. I was able to pick out a few words here and there. We watched a bit of a Mexican comedy show too ... that was weird almost to the point of being disturbing. Salvador got a chuckle out of it.
I'm slowly discovering more of the city. I visited el mercado today, but didn't buy anything - I still haven't changed my money to Quetzales.
I'm about to experience my first Friday night in Antigua! Olga says that the discotheques are very popular on the weekends. I'm not much of a discotheque guy though ... I don't even care for the word itself. But it might be a good chance to work on my Spanish - I think I know enough to ask a girl her name and tell her she's pretty :)
But if I decide not to go to the discotheque, there are several volcanoes around Antigua. So if I feel like confirming for myself just how out of shape I am, I can crawl my way to the top of one. I'll probably start out small, though - I hear there's a hill to the northeast that provides a spectacular view of the town. Plus it's only supposed to take 30 minutes to climb.
Tomorrow is my first completely free day! I'm excited to find some trouble to get into!
Water BJ - Aqua, you need to drink lots at 5,000 feet to help the headache...your loving auntie
